Modern channels beside a core that stays up

The core cannot be switched off, the regulator does not pause, and customers compare you with firms carrying neither constraint.

The hard part in banking is not building something modern. It is building it beside a core nobody can take offline, under obligations that arrive on schedule whatever else is happening that quarter.

Expertise & outcomes

What we bring, and what it changes

Legacy cores, regulatory reporting and fraud controls compete for the same engineering budget, while customers judge the bank on the app in their hand.

The tension

Four demands on the same budget

The core

Decades of encoded business rules that work, are barely documented, and cannot be taken offline to be understood.

The regulator

Reporting cycles that arrive whatever else is happening, and that are still assembled by hand in most firms.

The threat

Fraud and security controls that have to keep improving against an adversary who is also improving.

The customer

Digital-first expectations set by firms with no legacy estate and no obligation to explain their decisions.

Modernization

Moving off a core without a big-bang cutover

Every step below leaves a working system behind it. That is the constraint that makes the sequence what it is.

  1. Encircle

Put an API layer in front of the core so new work stops writing to it directly.

  2. Extract

Move one bounded capability out at a time, with the rules re-derived and tested against production behaviour.

  3. Run both

Parallel operation with reconciliation, until the new path is demonstrably identical.

  4. Retire

Decommission only what is provably unused — measured, not assumed.

Built in, not bolted on

Controls the delivery carries

Reporting

A pipeline, not a quarterly project

Regulatory reporting assembled by hand each cycle is expensive twice: once in the effort, and again in the risk that the version submitted cannot be reproduced six months later when somebody asks how a figure was reached.

Automating it means fixing lineage first — every figure traceable to the system that produced it — after which the report itself is a build step. The cycle gets shorter, and the answer to “where did this come from” stops requiring a person who remembers.
